Tape comes with keyboard and Markdown shortcuts to help you work faster without ever touching your mouse.

💡Note: You'll see cmd/ctrl used a lot below. This indicates command on Mac and control on Windows and Linux.

Markdown style

At the beginning of a new block in a dashboard, form, or record layout:

Type # followed by space to create a Heading 1.
Type ## followed by space to create a Heading 2.
Type ### followed by space to create a Heading 3.
Type #### followed by space to create a Heading 4.
Type --- to create a divider.

In multi-line text fields: Type - followed by space to create a bulleted list.

Create and style your content

With text selected, press cmd/ctrl + B to bold text.
With text selected, press cmd/ctrl + I to italicize text.
With text selected, press cmd/ctrl + U to underline text.
With text selected, press cmd/ctrl + K to add a link in a text block.
Press cmd/ctrl + Z to undo.
Press cmd/ctrl + shift + Z or cmd/ctrl + Y to redo.
Press cmd/ctrl + C to copy.
Press cmd/ctrl + X to cut.
Press cmd/ctrl + V to paste.
Press cmd/ctrl + A to select all.
Press cmd/ctrl + + to zoom in.
Press cmd/ctrl + - to zoom out.

Note: Bold, italic, and underline also work in multi-line text fields. Adding links with cmd/ctrl + K is available in text blocks.

Edit and move blocks

Content in Tape is organized into blocks, from text and images to fields and reports. These shortcuts let you edit whole blocks once they're selected.

These shortcuts work when editing an unlocked dashboard, form, or record layout.

Press enter to create a new text block.
Press esc to deselect a block or exit editing mode.
Use the up/down arrow keys to navigate between blocks.
Press backspace or delete to delete selected blocks.
Press cmd/ctrl + D to duplicate selected blocks.

Slash commands

Pressing / in an unlocked layout brings up a menu of blocks, fields, and actions you can choose from. You can shortcut this further by pressing / and typing what you want. Available options depend on whether you're editing a dashboard, form, or record layout.

Basic

Type /text to create a text block.
Type /heading to create a heading (1-4).
Type /divider to create a divider.
Type /box to create a box.
Type /tabs to create tabs in forms and record layouts.
Type /columns to create a layout with 2-5 columns.
Type /link to add a link.

Fields

In forms, you can add existing database fields or create new ones:

Existing fields: Type / and search for a field already in your database to add it to your form.
New field: Type / followed by a field type, like /number, /date, /email, or /relation, to create a new field in your database.

In record layouts, you can also create new database fields, including references and two-way references.

Reports

In dashboards, use / to add reports and charts:

Type /number to add a number report.
Type /list to add a list report.
Type /bar chart to add a bar chart.
Type /line chart to add a line chart.
Type /pie chart to add a pie chart.
Type /donut chart to add a donut chart.

Note: Reports and charts are available on Premium.

Media

Type /image to add an image.
Type /embed to embed content.

Advanced

Type /group to group blocks.
Type /red to find red text and background colors. You can search for other colors the same way.
Type /duplicate to duplicate a block.
Type /delete to delete a block.
Type /heading to turn an existing text block into a heading using its command menu.
Press esc to close the command menu.

Good to know

Emoji picker: Press ctrl + cmd + space on Mac or windows key + . or windows key + ; on Windows to open your computer's emoji picker.
Adjust field spacing: In an unlocked record or form layout, press cmd/ctrl + A to select all blocks. Drag the divider between a field label and its value to adjust the spacing for all selected fields at once.
Equal column widths: Double-click the gray vertical guide between columns to make them the same width.
